Parker River National Wildlife Refuge Photo
This vibrant photo was taken at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge on Plum Island. It is the view from one of the observation platforms located near North Pool. Intense saturated blues, greens and golds give the picture a jewel-like glow. We look down on azure blue water as it weaves an enigmatic pattern through the mystical marshes. Fluffy pink tinted clouds project dappled shadows over the distant landscape.
Home to a diverse ecosystem of beaches, dunes, inlets, pools and ocean front. This wonderful place is the residence of a variety of plants, fish and wildlife. It is a habitat where migratory birds can rest and feed. This stop over is frequented by many types of birds including songbirds, waterfowl and shorebirds. The refuge includes areas of protected breeding grounds for the piping plovers which are an endangered bird species.
The Refuge plays an important role in our society through its promotion of conservation and resource management. Many free programs are available to the public. These include photographing and observing wildlife, as well as a variety of other opportunities.
